BANDS
Grace McLean
Born to musicians in Southern California, Grace McLean showed early interest in jazz voice and studied under Carmen Bradford, protege to Ella Fitzgerald, in Los Angeles and later with singer Melba Joyce, Carmen’s mother, in New York. Grace began writing her own ditties in 2007 and has developed a sparse, plunky style that underlines her often irreverent, always truthful lyrics and highlights the main instrument: her soulfully honest voice. Grace McLean has been playing professionally since her debut performance at Joe’s Pub in 2009.

Kara Suzanne
There are reasons why Rock & Roll and Country music continue to be relevant forms of expression in the American landscape. In the early stretch of the 21st century, Kara Suzanne is one of those reasons. While Kara's timeless lyrics and powerhouse vocal delivery are filled with signposts pointing to the classic influence of musicians like Emmylou Harris, Neil Young, and Dolly Parton, there is also a fresh and modern sensibility. With the high-octane drive of her ever formidable band, the songs steer clear of predictability. Kara's dynamic live shows have become increasingly popular, both in esteemed NYC venues such as Irving Plaza, the Living Room, Gramercy Theater, and Southpaw, and at various film festivals, from Sundance, to Nantucket, to the Hamptons. In addition, Kara's debut album, "Aumsville," recently won Best Album of the Year from the Independent Music Awards.
"The band bridges the divide between blues, country, folk and rock; but they’re also not afraid of burning those bridges when the muse summons." - Chris Zebo, Maroon Weekly http://www.karasuzanne.com/ Mokaad
Founded by Gabriel Garzón-Montano in 2008, Mokaad is a 12-piece funk group. The ensemble is heavily influenced by the innovations of visionaries such as Sly Stone, Fred Wesley, Stevie Wonder, Prince and the Soulquarians. Based in Brooklyn, Mokaad comes out of the oldschool. Playing a funk of it's own, the ensemble gives props to all that is rhythm and blues from classic soul and gospel to hip hop. EMEFE
EMEFE has only one intention: to play music that frees everybody in the audience, everybody listening at home, and everybody in the band. The group plays its own mix of afrobeat music as created by the late Fela Kuti, mixed the funk of Sly Stone as well as jazz and hip hop influences. The band was created in December 2009 by Miles Arntzen, drummer with Superhuman Happiness and Antibalas, after he discovered the amazing power of Fela's music. In the same way that Fela used this music as an escape from and confrontation against the Nigerian authorities, EMEFE uses its music to fight the inner authorities that we put on ourselves, each for our own reasons. EMEFE has two records out for download at http://www.emefemusic.com .
Colorform
Colorform blends poetic lyricism, acoustic guitar, cello and visual art into their own brand of independent expression. At live performances and rehearsals, NYC artist Sarah Valeri draws and paints her unique artwork, a process in which the two art forms are mutually http://www.myspace.com/colorformmusic

Truthfully, I love nothing more than unexpected collaborations. Paul McCartney and Michael Jackson. Jack White and Loretta Lynn. Kanye West and Justin Vernon. Whether or not you’re a fan of one or all parts, these musical oddities typically bear bad ass fruit. And now, the same goes for Gallo & Hull .
The pair - that is Toy Soldier’s Ron Gallo and Nashville-based singer-songwriter Jordan Hull - met years ago after a clash with some strange folks during an early dawn in Memphis, causing Gallo and his crew to seek refuge in Hull’s Nashville home. It was there they connected over a mutual admiration for blues, soul, and vintage rock ‘n’ roll (plus, of course, their respective sonic creations), fostering the framework for a beautiful friendship that spanned numerous tours through the years. And, last fall, they took that up a notch when they started work on their Midweek Mountain Getaway split in Philadelphia, where Hull set up camp on Gallo’s couch for a few weeks. ohnotoysoldiers.com jordanhull.com It is rain in my face
